SITKA REUNION

The Sitka Reunion Committee is having a Sitka reunion for Sunday, May 30 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the VFW Building. The committee invites everyone to attend especially anyone who lived in or went to school at Sitka.  The reunion committee is Milton & Charlene Hughes and Eldora McMinimy.

 Mrs. McMinimy has written a book detailing the “History of Sitka” from its inception in 1885 to present time. The book includes history, personal stories and many pictures.  The book will be on sale at the reunion.

BLUEJAY PEDAL AND CHASE

A free bike race/pedal and run/walk biathlon is scheduled for Saturday, May 29 beginning at 8th and Main Street. All ages are encouraged to participate in this activity that will feature a bike leg and a run/walk leg.  Registration begins at 10:00 AM with the race at 10:30 AM.  The number of persons registered will determine the number of heats.

 Participants will receive the course and rules at registration. Awards for placing and special categories will be presented following the completion of the event.  Bring a bike or find a bike to use, but everyone must bring their own shoes.  For additional information or to register early contact Nathan Shupe at 620-635-0404.

LUCKY DUCKY RACE

The Ashland Community Foundation’s Lucky Duck Race will take place Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm beginning at the grade school. The fireman will provide the water for the ducks (plastic, of course) for a fair start for their swim down Highland Street towards the courthouse. The luckiest ducks’ owners will enjoy prizes including a flat screen TV, laptop computer, IPOD, mower, digital camera, Bar BQ grill, Playstation III, and various other prizes. Lucky Ducks are available from several local merchants and both banks for only $10 each.   Lucky Ducks will be available for purchase at the reunion registration on Friday and Saturday.

The proceeds from this annual fundraiser are used by the Ashland Community Foundation to support local groups and causes throughout the year. A founders fund has been established to provide the opportunity for those interested to make a lasting gift to the future of the community and its quality of life.
