1995 Reunion May 26, 27 and 28 Registration - $20 The Year of the GREAT WEEKEND
Ashland hosted The All School Reunion for a very enthusiastic crowd of graduates, classmates and friends on May 26-28, 1995. Reunion participants began arriving early in the week in anticipation of the weekend activities. Old friends and classmates greeted each other as they registered on Friday afternoon at various local businesses. Groups of rain soaked people could be seen standing under the main street awnings as they eagerly awaited the arrival of other classmates. Friday's downpour moved the ice cream social inside but didn't deter the crowd as classmates roamed around the cafeteria from group to group. Decades of Ashland's history were shared by Frank York and Mary Callison accompanied by appropriate songs performed by the Keynoters, and graduates Don Crosby, Jim McNickle, Garth Gardiner and Dianna Seabourn Messer. Kirb Pike spice up the occasion with his humorous western anecdotes. Saturday classmates hosted brunches and coffees all over town and many attended the Fireman's Breakfast. The Class of '54 hosted the Memory Tour (a bus ride around town to view historic homes, schools and old stompin' grounds). Everyone had a chance to skate at the temporary rink west of the VFW building and some even participated in the Great Race. 488 people gathered under the big tent at the High School where they ate a scrumptious meal catered by Buddy Probst and the Old Weigh Station and heard of past academic and athletic successes and few stories about J.E. Humphreys. The class of 1950 conducted the memorial service with Wes Santee as MC and vocal and keyboard music arranged by Lee Vandeveer (1966). The honor roll of deceased graduates was read by Santee, Don Humphreys and Henry Gardiner (1949) followed by Andy McNickle (1967) playing the bagpipes. The Air Show on Monday topped off The Great Weekend.
Don Humphreys (Class of 1950) was the MC for the Banquet. Oldest male graduate attending: Harold Ray (1924) Oldest female graduate attending: Laura Hicks (1922) Grad coming longest distance: Rose Helen Pike Acosta (1939) Alaska Spirit Stick winners: Class of 1950 Special recognition was given to Harold and Margaret Ray as the oldest graduating couple celebrating 65 years of marriage.
